St. Louis rock group plays the Tally tonight

Ludo, The Dog & Everything and Saving Face set to jam

After taking a few weeks off for the holidays, the band Ludo is ready to hit the road once again. First stop: Ball State University.

Ludo will play a free show along with fellow bands The Dog & Everything and Saving Face today at 8 p.m. in the Student Center Tally. The show is being put on by the University Program Board. Students can buy coffee, cappuccino and latte for $1.

The St. Louis-based group last appeared in Muncie on Nov. 21 when it opened for Blessid Union of Souls.

Since then, Ludo has been continually gaining popularity. Much of this is based on the sound of its first full-length album, the self-titled Ludo, that was released in August on the band's independent label, Redbird Records. Last year, Ludo was the most requested St. Louis artist on The River's Countdown on the St. Louis radio station FM 101.1.

The band got its start last January with just two members, Andrew Volpe, 23, and Tim Ferrell, 24. The duo began touring by performing acoustic shows at coffee shops and other small venues.

Once the spring came around, Volpe, lead vocals and rhythm guitar, and Ferrell, lead guitar and background vocals, added new members to expand the band. Tim Convy, 23, was brought on to play keyboards, and was soon joined by bassist Marshall Fanciullo, 24, and drummer Matt Palermo, 19.

Ludo's first show with all five current members on board was in August at the Midwest Music Summit in Indianapolis.

The band's sound has been compared to bands such as Weezer and Ultimate Fakebook. In the past, Ludo has opened for the likes of The Big Wu, Longwave and Reel Big Fish.
