GYMNASTICS BSU picks up first MAC victory

The Ball State gymnastics team captured its first conference win of the season by edging out Western Michigan 193.200 to 193.150.-á

Head coach Mary Roth said the team performed well against its Mid-American Conference foe.

Ball State split the four events with Western Michigan. The Cardinals won the vault (48.375 to 47.775) and beam (48.250 to 47.550).-áThe Broncos narrowly won the bars (48.700 to 48.600) and captured the floor exercise (49.125 to 47.975).-á

Senior Quiana Williams helped the Cardinals (2-0 overall, 1-0 in the MAC) knock off the Broncos by winning the all-around with a score of 39.050.-áWilliams also won the vault (9.725) and was BSU's top finisher on the beam (9.800) and floor (9.875).-á

A season high score in the all-around by Kelli Davis helped out the Cardinals.-áThe junior scored a 38.975 in the all-around, and was BSU's second-highest finisher on vault (9.700), bars (9.750) and floor (9.825).

Junior Jessica Surridge had a solid finish on bars, scoring a 9.800.-áThis was the Cardinals' top score for the event and was good enough for second place.

Ball State also had two other gymnasts that competed in all four events.-áSenior Courtney Vojtasek scored a 38.125 and freshman Jenna Tarkington tallied a total of 38.100.
