Dear Editor,
What has happened to the Christmas spirit? I am ashamed ofmyself for not having the courage to stand up and say something asa young man was asked to leave the "Holiday Choral Concert." BeforeThe Statesmen, the second group, began their performance, a youngman with disabilities was antsy and was talking in a slightlyelevated voice. After about a minute, it prompted the conductor,Douglas Amman, to hurry over to the corner of the stage to ask theyoung man and his mother a question. The mother and son debatedleaving, but the young man agreed to sit down. The conductor beganbefore the man quieted down, then stopped and asked him to leave. The audience released a shocked "Aww," as the young man and hismother walked out the door.
It seems that a concert celebrating Christmas would produce moretolerant people. The conductor could have given the young mananother minute or two. He was quiet the first 15 minutes, so whatwould led Amman to believe he couldn't handle the rest of theperformance? I realize the concert was being recorded, but it couldhave been edited. Couldn't Amman have been a little more patientand tolerant? I believe Amman owes that young man and his mother anapology, and one to the audience, who would have waited anotherminute for the young man to quiet down. Amman destroyed the merryspirit of the event for many in that audience.
