WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards look to bounce back from 0-2 start

Ball State to kick off its Thanksgiving week play with trip to IPFW

After opening the season 0-2, the women's basketball team willhave an opportunity over Thanksgiving Break to get back above thefive hundred mark.

The team will kick off the break in Fort Wayne tonight facingIPFW. IPFW should prove to be a test for the Cardinals defense, which has been the Cards' main focus so far this season.

"We have got to play better than we did this weekend," headcoach Tracy Roller said. "We've got to match their intensity."

After facing IPFW, the team will travel to the East CarolinaThanksgiving Tournament to play the Eastern Washington EaglesFriday night.

The Eagles are playing very well offensively. According toRoller, they have three to four players that see major minutes andnormally have four players score in double figures. Their offensiveabilities will once again be a test for the Cardinals defense toovercome.

"Fortunently for us, they're letting people score as easily asthey are," Roller said.

Ball State will close out the break in either the consolation orchampionship game in the tournament. One possible second roundopponent in the tournament could be Cleveland State, which wouldplace the Cards' new assistant coach Duffy Burns against the teamhe head coached for eight years. They could also face EastCarolina, in what would be the first meeting of the schools in teamhistory.

The team will have some tough tests this weekend before they canclimb above the five-hundred mark. With some strong offensive teamson the horizon, the team is keying in on defense and offensiverebounding.

"Our defense is going to be tested," Roller said.

This past weekend was a disappointment to the team, but if theycan get three wins, they will be back on track, said Roller.

"We've put ourselves in a bind," Roller said. "We've putourselves in a hole and we've got to dig ourselves out."
