The men's volleyball team won the Quincy Tournament in Illinoison Sunday to start its preseason schedule.
Ball State eased past Midwestern Intercollegiate VolleyballAssociation Conference rival Quincy 30-26, 30-21 in the semifinalsand defeated Missouri Baptist 30-24, 38-36 in the finals.
The team trailed by several points throughout the course of thesecond game, and head coach Joel Walton said he was pleased withhis team's effort to pull out the victory. Missouri Baptist is anNAIA team, but Walton said the players possessed above-averageskills. Last season the Spartans lost to Park University in thefinals and finished second in the NAIA national tournament.
Senior Jary Delgado finished led Ball State with 15 kills.
Walton said he was pleased with the consistency that the youngteam showed throughout the tournament. He said freshman Nick Meyerplayed a solid tournament despite having little experience on thecollegiate level.
Luis Castera contributed 12 kills in the final match.
The Cardinals travel to Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday to face OhioState before finishing their preseason schedule with an alumnimatch at home and three-straight matches against Lindenwood inMissouri.
