Ball State women's golf coach Shelley Sanders graduated fromFlorida International University in 1987.
For the first time in 17 years, she is returning, this time as ahead coach.
"This is my first time going back as a coach so it means a lotto me," Sanders said. "It is kind of interesting being on the otherside so I'm excited."
After three weeks off from competition, the team returns toaction in Miami, Fla. on Friday for FIU's Pat Bradley Invitationaland its final match of the fall season.
The combination of dreary, cold weather and significant time offgave the Cards a chance to emphasize and improve weaknesses.
"I don't think it helps (to have so much time off) particularlywith the weather being poor, but you do the best you can," Sanderssaid. "We won't let it work against us, but allow it to work forus."
Sophomore Katie Sundberg and senior Lisa Robertson carried BallState in its previous match Oct. 10 at the Eastern KentuckyInvitational, where the team took fifth place out of 16 teams.
Sundberg led all of the team's golfers with a tie for seventhplace individually and a 151 (79-72) through two rounds, whileRobertson finished 13th, shooting a 155 (78-77).
"We've done a good job so far this season and I look for them tocontinue that this weekend," Sanders said. "I'm looking forward toa good weekend and good end to the fall season."
Along with Sundberg and Robertson, sophomores Ali Meyer andCarmen Bodine and freshman Amber Uphaus will round out the rotationfor the Cardinals.
The 54-hole Pat Bradley Invitational begins Friday and continuesthrough Sunday at the Doral Resort and Spa in Miami, Fla.
