SOCCER: Bobcats go on tear to end BSU's roadstretch at 2-2

After loss, Ball State currently tied for third in conference

Ball State (8-6-2, 6-4-1) wishes Christel Schiering never would have taken the pitch Sunday. The Bobcat forward ripped the Cardinals for three goals in the span of four minutes en route to Ohio's 4-1 victory, marking the largest margin of defeat this year for the Cardinals.

Ball State ended its four-game road stretch with a 2-2 record. Head coach Ron Rainey said the outcomes were disappointing because on both weekends Ball State managed to win the Friday game, but could not follow with victories, losing both Sunday games.

Rainey said the defense placed the goalkeepers in difficult positions because of breakdowns and most of the goals were scored from ten yards away. Alison Becker gave up all four goals in the second half and recorded five saves. Megan Swafford worked a scoreless first half.

Rainey said Ohio forced his defensive players into difficult situations throughout the match.

"Ohio is a good team, and they are able to gain possession and put the ball into dangerous positions," he said.

Ball State was able to dent the scoreboard with three minutes left in the match when Kate Nadalin converted a pass from Dee Nocero.

Rainey said his team did some good things despite the blowout loss.

"We possessed balls well, and we were able to work balls to our (outside players)," he said.-á"I thought the forwards worked well with their backs to the goal."

Ball State's loss drops it into a tie for third place in the conference with idle Western Michigan. A Friday loss at home against Akron could force the Cardinals to play on the road in the first round of the MAC tournament. Ohio's (6-9-1, 4-5-1) two weekend wins push them back into contention for qualifying for the conference tournament.
