A strong start at the Notre Dame Invitational put the Ball Statewomen's golf team in a good position to play well the remainder ofthe tournament.
The Cards' were unable to take advantage of their second placeposition after the first round, however, dropping to fifth afterthe second round and finishing in seventh place.
"I was very encouraged by the scores from the first round. It'sa difficult golf course. It's a better field than we've played in,"head coach Shelley Sanders said.
BSU was led by senior Lisa Robertson and sophomore KatieSundberg, who both tied for 23rd individually.
The two finished with a three round total of 243, whileRobertson shot rounds of 77-82-84 and Sundberg 83-79-81.
The team finished with a 968, six strokes behind sixth placefinisher Boston College, and shot 311-327-330 team scores throughthe three rounds.
"I think that this tournament really speaks a lot as to thelevel of play and the quality of team that we have. I don't thinkwe finished as well as we started and that's a littledisappointing, but it proves we have the ability to play withanyone," Sanders said.
Winning the tournament was host Notre Dame, capturing the titlefrom second round leader Northern Iowa by one stroke.
The Cards will return to action in two weeks for the EKU FallInvitational at the Arlington Golf Course in Richmond, Ky.
