Areas of Delaware County were flooded Monday after almost 6 inches of rain fell, deputy director of Delaware County Emergency Management Agency David LePoris said.
Reports of flooding started coming in around noon Monday from the Country Village sub-division, South Madison Street, and South Hoyt Street, LePoris said.
LePoris said there is no single concentrated area of flooding.
"The storms in July gave us a good idea of low areas we need to look at," LePoris said.
Scott Davis, Yorktown and Mt. Pleasant Fire Department fire chief, said the fire department had started handing out sand bags, though no one had taken any yet. Emergency management personnel have ordered 60,000 sand bags. Cleanup crews are also pumping water out of the streets.
LePoris said Hamilton Township was also handing out sandbags.
The rain was supposed to continue throughout Monday night, so flooding would most likely not be gone by Tuesday morning, LePoris said. The area was under a flash flood warning as of presstime.
