FIELD HOCKEY: Ball State falls to two Top 25 schools

After holding a one-goal lead at halftime against No. 19Northwestern, the field hockey team gave up two goals in the secondhalf to lose 3-2 Saturday in Evanston, Ill. The Cardinals then fellto No. 22 Delaware, 3-1, Sunday.

No. 21 Ball State took its first lead 11:02 into the game with agoal by sophomore Chantelle Isaac, her third of the season.

Northwestern scored with 10 minutes to play in the half to tiedthe score. But senior Afton Hess gave the Cardinals a 2-1 lead witha goal off a penalty corner shot as the half expired.

The Wildcats tied the score again with less than 14 minutes toplay. Just two minutes later, they scored the game-winning goal offa penalty corner shot.

Hess forged a halftime tie against Delaware with another penaltycorner shot as time expired. But the Blue Hens scored twice in thesecond for the win.�

Although the Cardinals outshot the Wildcats 14-8, nine of thoseshots came in the first half, and against the Blue Hens theymanaged just three total. Goalie Tracy Bannister registered threesaves in the first game and four in the second one.
