Red Cross prepared to aid flood victims

DISASTER RELIEF

The National Red Cross has declared the State of Indiana a national disaster relief operation.

"We (the local Red Cross) have assisted multiple flood victims in Muncie and Jay County, and with more rain expected in the coming days we anticipate those numbers to increase," executive director Gina Bradburn said in a press release.

Volunteer Red Cross damage assessment teams, along with the local Emergency Management Agency, are working to provide detailed surveys of flood damage. Damage assessment reports help to estimate the future relief needs of communities damaged by flooding.

The chapter has also aided nine families who suffered house fires in the past week.

Those in need of assistance should contact the local chapter at 284-3361, (260) 726-9530 or 1-800-480-4403.

Clean-up kits are available at the Muncie Red Cross chapter for those who have suffered storm and/or flood damage.

Sand bags are available at Hamilton Township and Yorktown Fire Departments in Delaware County, EMA in Portland (Jay County), and at the Southside Church of the Nazarene in Muncie located at 3500 W. Fusion Road.
