Our View: Manly Gras

AT ISSUE: Police arrest three Muncie Mardi Gras revelers for indecent exposure -- all men.

According to The Star Press of Muncie, local police arrested three Mardi Gras revelers for indecent exposure Saturday night.

The interesting thing is, all three arrests were males.

Mardi Gras is a time when people cut loose and inhibitions are low. This past weekend's festivities were a vast improvement on the celebration of last year, as police presence and crowd control increased dramatically.

Are we to believe one of the major attractions to Mardi Gras -- women exposing their breasts -- didn't happen?
Perhaps we can believe it happened, but it just wasn't seen by police officers.

Other improvements included more adequate restroom facilities and stringent identification checks. No one under the age of 21 was allowed to enter.

But even the tightest security and most elaborate planning can't fully prepare for the unpredictable nature of drunken revelry.

So, in all seriousness, indecent exposures are to be expected. After all, it's Mardi Gras.

However, according to police reports, no women were caught and arrested for exposing themselves.

Perhaps we can believe it happened, but it just wasn't seen by police officers.

Then again, maybe it happened, was observed, and was not acknowledged as indecent.

Whatever the case, this year's Mardi Gras was by all indications a much stronger effort by all parties involved.

And if you believe no women took their shirts off, you'll believe anything.
