Roach's flawless weekend paces Cards

Behind Melissa Roach's perfect weekend, the women's tennis team won a pair of weekend road matches. Ball State nudged past Iowa State 4-3 on Friday before sweeping past Northern Iowa, 7-0, the next day.

Roach won both of her No. 1 singles matches, also teaming with Jill Wieman to take two matches at No. 2 doubles.

Head coach Kathy Bull was pleased to get two wins, saying it made the long road trip worthwhile.

"We had a good weekend," said Bull, who watched her team improve to 4-0. "It was a great match with Iowa State; we matched up with them well. Against Northern Iowa we struggled some in doubles, but kicked it into gear in singles play."

Also getting two singles wins were Jenny Batty at No. 2 and Wieman at No. 4. Leisa Brooks and Jenny Batty teamed for two No. 1 doubles wins. Also getting victories against NIU were Brooks, Susan Kelley, Alyce Zollman and Zollmand/Kara Sullivan.
