Cardinals host Illinois State, Illinois-Chicago

Gymnastics team has home meet for first time in month.

For the first time in a month, the Ball State gymnastics team will be back in Muncie for a home meet. The Cardinals will host Illinois State and Illinois-Chicago Friday in Irving Gymnasium.

Friday's meet is the first home meet in a month for the Cards and the team's last home meet of the season. Friday is also senior night - the night the seniors work toward their whole career, where they are rewarded for four years of hard work.

"I'm looking to this weekend, just because it's my last home meet," senior Kim Cromer said.

"They're the backbone of our team," junior Quiana Williams said of the seniors. "They've been through a lot of stuff. They'll be missed."

Friday's meet will be the last time seniors Amy Bodus, Lindsey Kohout, and Cromer will have a chance to compete in front of the home crowd. Seniors Courtney Vojtasek and Jenny Taylor will return for a fifth season next year for the Cards. Vojtasek is currently sitting out this season with an injury, while Taylor received a medical redshirt in the 2002 season.

Being on home turf will be a luxury for Ball State. The Cardinals will have just their third home match and are coming off a stretch of three straight defeats. The last victory was at the team's last home meet, The Cardinal Classic.

"We're working on improving things right now. We really haven't had a bad meet," Williams said.

Ball State is coming off a loss last Sunday in Kalamazoo, Mich., where the Cardinals came up short by less than two points against Western Michigan and Southeast Missouri State.

After Friday's meet, the Cards will travel as far as Colorado Springs in a stretch of four games, their longest stretch of the season. The team will then finish the year with the Mid-American Conference Championship, where it will look to defend its conference title.
