Women swimmers dominate

Complete domination. Those two words appropriately sum up the women's swimming and diving team's 144-74 home victory over Wright State on Saturday. Ball State won 12 of 13 events against the Raiders.

The Cards' performance helped 24-year head coach Laura Seibold-Caudill reach her 200th career coaching victory.

Michelle Arakgi led the way for the Cardinals by notching first-place finishes in the 100 and 500 freestyle events. Meanwhile, diver Paige Vernasco took the 1 and 3-meter diving events, with point totals of 253.28 and 230.33.

The Cathy Somenzi Scholarship was also presented Saturday afternoon. Jamie VanNess was the recipient of the award, given annually to a junior who demonstrates leadership qualities, outstanding achievement and represents the programs well. In addition, VanNess swam the first leg of the Cardinals' winning 400-yard medley relay (4:03.97).
