Men's Track: BSU heads to Purdue Open

The Ball State men's track and field team will try to improve upon its successful performance at the Ball State Open last weekend when it travels to West Lafayette for the Purdue Open on Saturday.

Fourth-year head coach Jim Sprecher believes it is very important for the Cards to continually improve as they progress throughout the year.

"This early in the season we want to be sure that each time we step on the track, we walk away with better performances than the week before," Sprecher said.

The Cardinals will once again look to their leaders, such as pole vaulter Paul Panning, who set a Ball State indoor record last week. Panning, one of five winners for the Cards, was named the Mid-American Conference Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Ball State Open.

The Purdue Open will be an open format, as the Ball State Open was. In an open format, unattached athletes are allowed to participate, but their participation will not count toward the overall points scored.
