City cop shot in raid; robberies investigated

Bandits strike LoBills, Burger King in two unrelated robberies; Muncie, Ball State Police respond.

Muncie and Ball State police had their hands full Tuesday night after an officer was shot during a raid and two unrelated robberies were investigated.

Officer Steve Cox was wounded as Muncie police executed a search warrant at a home on the corner of 1st and Ebright streets. Chief Deputy Terry Winters said the shots were fired out the front window of the home. A SWAT team was called to help apprehend the woman who was taken into custody.

Winters said an armed robbery was attempted later in the evening at LoBills, 3705 S. Madison St. A hostage was taken, but as the suspect was leaving he was taken down by a K-9 officer.

Just after that, police were called to the scene of another armed robbery at Burger King, 418 S. Tillotson Ave. The solitary male pushed the employees into the back room while he took money from the cash register. Winters said the robber was gone when police arrived.

Winters said no further information would be available until a press release could be prepared by Muncie Police Chief Joe Winkle.
