A search for a new head football coach will begin immediately, Bubba Cunningham, BSU athletics director, said. A press conference will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. in Worthen Arena.

Lynch has compiled a 37-53 coaching record at Ball State, including a 6-6 overall record and a 4-4 Mid-American Conference mark this season. He led the Cardinals to the 1996 MAC Championship and a berth in the Las Vegas Bowl. He also led last year's squad to a 4-1 record in the MAC West Division and a tie for the division title.

"Bill brought in good students and good people to Ball State," Cunningham said. "This is an extremely difficult decision because of Bill's personal integrity and commitment to Ball State University."
