Muncie's own Scotty's Brewhouse is opening its third location in West Lafayette this summer.
Due to open July 1, the location will be a site that is currently being developed, called Wabash Landing, in an area of town known as "the Levy." The complex will have several stores, including a Panera Bread, movie theater, an apartment complex, a Hilton Hotel where Scotty's will serve as room service and many others.
"I like Scotty's because they have great food and tons of beer on tap," Ball State senior Scott Duncan said of the Muncie location.
The theme of the restaurant is much like the blues-influenced Muncie and Bloomington locations; the menu will be almost identical, and a stage and patio area will also be included. Each of the three locations has changed slightly from each other to better adapt to their surroundings.
For this reason, menus are not identical and the beer selection varies as well, featuring each areas' local or micro-brewed beers.
The West Lafayette location will be roughly twice the size of the Muncie location.
Four to five Muncie employees will move to Lafayette to work at the new location to help maintain a consistency through the three locations. The head managers have all started their Scotty's careers in Muncie.
Scott Wise, president and CEO, still bases most of his work from Muncie. In January 2004, the local Scotty's is undergoing a re-modeling, expanding into the space next door.
The plans will be to expand both the kitchen and seating areas for more available space. Other future plans of the business are to develop its own homemade brews and to continue concentration on existing locations.
Although continued store expansion is still a possibility, Wise would like to keep the local atmosphere that exists at each location. Creating a large chain of stores would be too impersonal. At this stage, Wise said he can still be involved with each location.
