Our View: Let's Stay Home

AT ISSUE: Fewer than 10 people attend open forum to discuss parking problems with university officials.

You heard it here first: Ten people care about parking at Ball State University.

At least that's the indication from Tuesday's sparsely attended open forum in Burkhart Building Room 109.

The forum, intended to provide the public with an opportunity to discuss parking issues with university officials, finally gave students a chance to voice concerns and ask questions. Unfortunately, attendance was poor.

Perhaps there was no parking.

The better reason, it would appear, is that students, faculty and staff do not care as much about this issue as their abundant letters seem to indicate.

It's a shame that student response is so poor when it is welcomed by university officials.

It's certainly a shame, in light of SGA efforts to sponsor this forum (combined with university officials' efforts to answer the concerns of disgruntled drivers), that so few actually attended.

It's far easier to stay home and write letters.

Do we have a Student Government Association that does not serve students? It seems students do not want to be served.

Is this a university that does not care about student concerns? It would appear the real people who do not care are the ones pointing fingers - the public.

In the end, the numbers don't lie.

Fortunately for the apathetic, our university officials were not deterred by this lack of interest.

Instead, they made sure to answer the questions of those few members of the public who did attend. In fact, a special task force will be appointed to examine parking problems more closely.

Rest assured, the parking problem is under investigation, whether you care or not.
