Cardinals fall to Toledo Rockets

TOLEDO, OHThe Ball State Cardinals could not overcome the Toledo Rockets' high-powered offense in a 37-17 loss on Saturday night.
The Rocket offense put up 518 total yards of offense to Ball State's 309. In his first start at quarterback, Ball State junior Andy Roesch threw for 182 yards and one interception.

The homecoming crowd of 25,926 saw Toledo jump out to an early lead on a ten-yard quarterback draw by senior Brian Jones. Ball State then punted the ball away and Toledo responded with another touchdown, this one in the form of a pass to Lance Moore.

Ball State's first score came on a 19-yard pass from Roesch to Larry Bostic. Ball State also threatened on its next possession, but a Roesch interception led to another Toledo touchdown with 30 seconds left in the half.
Toledo's offense took it to the Ball State defenders again in the second half, adding two more touchdowns and a field goal. The Cardinals never challenged in the second half.

Toledo quarterback finished the game with 258 yards passing on 21 of 26 attempts and three touchdowns.
