Will watch football for food

At Issue: To boost football attendance, Dining Services will close three facilities, serve food at Saturday's game

Want to eat lunch tomorrow? We hope you like football.

In an effort to boost attendance at home football games, Dining Services has opted to close Noyer Center, Out of Bounds, and Courtside during the Saturday lunch-time hours. In lieu of serving meals at those locations, lunch will be served at the picnic shelter at the football stadium.

The menu includes cookout favorites such as quarter-pound hamburgers, Johnsonville brats, potato salad and Pepsi products. Vegetarian alternatives are also provided.

"It's only for the noon meal, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m." said Ann Talley, Director of Residence Halls Dining Services and University Catering.

Talley also said that Dining Services knows not everyone will be interested in going to the game, so the Atrium and Cardinal Crossing will remain open.

Dining Services made this decision independently of the athletic department, as a contribution to help support the football team.

When students purchase a meal plan, the understanding is that they will not have to jump through hoops to get their food. Football attendance may be poor, but students should not be inconvenienced because they don't care.

While it is a good idea to serve food at the game, dining halls should remain open to accommodate students who could care less about Cardinal football.
