Cards win close game against UCONN in overtime

The football team traveled to Connecticut for the second year in a row and came out with its third straight win over the Huskies in overtime, 24-21.

Leading the charge throughout the game was senior tailback Marcus Merriweather who rushed for 124 yards on the day with one rushing touchdown. He also played an intrigal part of the passing attack by catching five passes for 70 yards and had a receiving touchdown.

Junior quarterback Talmadge Hill threw for two touchdowns today as well as two interceptions. Hill went 15 for 26 with 156 passing yards on the day.

Against the Huskies, freshman receiver Jason Barnes caught his first touchdown of his career as a Cardinal, and junior cornerback Jesse Avant hauled in his first interception of the season, setting up Ball State's third touchdown of the game.

The win came down in overtime after UCONN quarterback Dan Orlovsky led the team to a late touchdown drive in the fourth quarter to tie the game. In overtime, junior kicker Mike Langford kicked a 37 yard field goal to put the Cards up.
