Student allegedly assaulted near Noyer

Police reports say man tried to force freshman into car.

A Ball State student was assaulted late Wednesday night near the Noyer Complex, police reports say.

An unidentified male allegedly tried to force freshman Kasandra L. Statires, 19, into a dark colored Honda Civic around 10:55 p.m. on the southwest corner of Noyer.

Statires said she was moving her bike from the Baker Hall bike racks to the Howick Hall bike racks when a car pulled up next to her between the Emens parking garage and Noyer Complex. She said four average-looking white men were yelling at her to get into their vehicle.

"I thought they were typical guys just yelling at me," Statires said.

Another man came from behind Statires, she said, and grabbed her arm, trying to push her into the car.

Statires escaped from the men when something caused them to drive away from the scene, she said. The man who grabbed her got into the car before it drove away.

Statires described him as an average looking white man with dark hair. He was just under 6-foot tall and had no facial hair or distinguishing marks, she said.

Because she was approached from behind, Statires said the men could have possibly planned the act.

"It was almost like the kids in the car were trying to distract me," she said.

Lindsay Leas, who reported the incident to police, said she did not witness the incident, but that Statires told her what had happened.

"She came in hysterical and started telling me about it," Leas said. "That's when I called the police."

Statires and Leas both said the area where the alleged assault took place had poor lighting.

"It wasn't lit very well," Leas said. "But the hall director said they're working on that."
