Riley named to Academic All-American team

The Verizon/College Sports Information Directors of America named Zach Riley to the All-America First Team in men's track and field.

Riley will be graduating in July leading the team with a 3.711 grade point average. Riley became one of the only two Ball State men's track and field athletes to earn first team honors in school history. Craig Farnsworth did it in 1985.

Riley was 2002 Mid-American Conference Champion in the hammer throw for a third straight year. He set a Ball State outdoor record May 11 when he threw for a distance of 215-11 at Indiana.

The throw was ranked as the 10th best hammer throw in the nation.
