The only thing I want to do is make you think and realize something.
This starts off as a story and ends as a lesson - at least I hope it does. During the course of this year, I've met a lot of new friends. One of them happens to be an international student. We were talking one day about the "stereotypical, submissive Asian female" and how they "obey everything their boyfriend or husband tells them." Well, I'm a thinker and I can usually apply a comment, no matter how outlandish it is, to something else. So, as I strolled through campus one day, a thought came to me. "He Got Game," a very good Spike Lee film, contains a scene that is still stuck in my head to this day. Jesus, the main character, went to visit a college campus and his tour guide was a black ball player like himself. Well, they were about to get something to eat when a half dozen white women came over to the tour guide and Jesus. After they left and Jesus asked who the women were, he told Jesus he was able to drive in "Daddy's Benz" and that he "can call them up at midnight for a booty call and they're at my door five minutes later, banging down the door."
You're probably wondering where the connection lies. I've found out that Asian women (if the stereotype is true, but it isn't) aren't the only submissive women. Some white women are submissive to their boyfriends. After thinking and observing the campus as a whole, there are some truths to that statement.
I'm not claiming that all white women are submissive to their boyfriends. I have met and made a lot of good friendships with white females since being here. After all, they are the majority on this campus. The submissive white female I refer to can be in an interracial relationship and may exhibit these behaviors:
The one who has to warn her that "fruitality" is illegal and some fruits should just be left alone.
The one who gives "favors" to friends of the person she is sleeping with.
The one who starts acting stupid whenever a male she is attracted to comes around her.
The one who is in an interracial relationship and hates (let me repeat that) hates it when other white females so much as glance at their black boyfriend. (Well, maybe that's not a submissive trait. It might be low self-esteem.)
The one who does her boyfriend's laundry.
The one who pays for every social activity.
Just as not all Asian women are submissive (where do we get that stereotype?) the same can be said for white females. The females I have noticed showing those above characteristics, you know who you are.
Maybe this happens with all women, or maybe it's just certain things I've noticed that are usually associated with white females. I hope people will take time and look closely. Trust me, you'll see it too. Have a good summer.
