Daily News named best in state by ICPA

The Ball State Daily News won 19 awards including newspaper of the year Saturday at the 2002 Indiana Collegiate Press Association Spring Convention.

The DN beat out, among others, the Indiana Daily Student of Indiana University and The Observer of Notre Dame in the category for papers published three or more times a week.

First place was also awarded to the DN staff for best single issue, best deadline news reporting and best informational graphic.

Six Ball State students were honored with five first place awards.

Rachel Perkins won for best non-deadline news reporting. Jon Seidel won best news feature. Tom Gubbins won best sports feature story. Emmet Smith and Ryan Powell won best inside page design and Michael Podgorny won best photo essay or picture story.
