MALLOY SLATE
Recognition inside and out of Student Government Association is a main focus, according to presidential candidate Jeff Malloy.
Malloy said he would combat student apathy by recognizing more student organizations for their accomplishments, as well as SGA members for their efforts.
"We want to get more people involved by bringing all the organizations together for central planning in one big program," Malloy said.
He included co-sponsorship of events also. Malloy said most students don't recognize how big a role SGA plays in co-sponsorship activities.
Other issues include parking, multicultural affairs and safety issues. The slate proposes to get all unpaved lots paved, including at the stadium. It also will look into limiting the amount of overselling for parking permits.
Safety issues are centralized on improving lighting on campus, adding lighting and call boxes to overflow lots and expanding the escort service to weekend hours, Malloy said.
TEAM TOLU
The Olowomeye slate is taking a non-traditional campaign approach by dropping the slate idea and running as Team Tolu.
"We felt that slate denotes a hierarchy and we are all on the same level," presidential candidate Tolu Olowomeye said.
Team Tolu is focusing on relations between Muncie and Ball State, school spirit and representation of student organizations.
"As downtown Muncie is redeveloped, SGA's priority is to assist the process of linking Ball State to the Muncie community," Olowomeye said.
Team Tolu wants to add more buses to football and basketball away games to support Ball State. Olowomeye said another interest is to make SGA more representative of other student organizations by being more available for evaluation.
"We want to change the stigma that SGA is only visible to campus organizations during elections," Olowomeye said. "Team Tolu promises daily visits to student organizations so they can make suggestions."
