SGA candidates rally for elections

With only one day to go before the winning slate is announced, signs and banners from both slates attracted students to the Scramble Light Monday, encouraging them to vote in the SGA election.

Team Tolu greeted students holding a large banner that read, "Vote Team Tolu."

The slate was challenged across Riverside Avenue by volunteers on behalf of the Malloy slate with signs that said, "Move to change with Malloy."

"Those were our supporters," said Laura Harris, secretarial candidate for the Malloy slate. "They took the initiative and did that themselves."

Harris said the Malloy slate was "very relaxed and having a good time" with its final campaigning Monday.

"We talked it up in our classes," Harris said.

Team Tolu secretarial candidate Joe Flores said he has been enjoying the campaign.

"It's nice to go out there and see what issues need to be confronted," Flores said.

Presidential candidate Tolu Olowomeye said the student reaction was positive.

"It was great to hear students honk horns in support," she said.

On the other hand, there was a sense of apprehension about the election.

"I woke up anxious," Olowomeye said. "I just told myself the quicker the day started, the quicker it would end."

Team Tolu vice-presidential candidate Megan Pickens said she also feels anxious.

"I am nervous and excited," Pickens said. "We've been working on this a long time. It's going to feel good to find out (today)."

Malloy slate vice-presidential candidate Michelle Hudson said she was nervous and excited about the voting days.

"I think it's going to be very close," Hudson said. "Jeff and I were in class together encouraging people to vote. People pretty much know what is going on."

Hudson said no matter the result, she will be celebrating tonight.

"We'll be doing more of the same, just winding down," Hudson said, "After our classes we are going to get together and celebrate."

Presidential candidate Jeff Malloy said the slate will be actively talking to students today.

"We are all about personal interaction," Malloy said. "That's the heart of our campaign."

The slates spent Monday evening speaking to greek organizations and residence halls to finish up their campaigns.

"Our support has come 100 percent from the students," Malloy said.

Students can vote today at www.bsu.edu/votebsu until 6:45 p.m.
