Letter: Verbal taunts from fans inappropriate

Dear editor:

I would personally like to thank the three "Beefcakes" that attended Wednesday night's women's basketball game. Unfortunately, these three were able to ruin a basketball game for many fans who came to enjoy it by verbally taunting an Eastern Michigan basketball player.

This young woman was very talented and played well despite the fact that she could hear these three individuals shouting demoralizing comments in her direction. Words such as "Beefcake" and comments that referred to this young woman as being three times the size of others and questions like "How many Twinkies did you eat?" left many of us students ashamed to be associated with the university.

Although these gentlemen could not have found their laps with a map and compass, they decided that it was funny to pick someone out who was there as a visitor and had no personal vendetta against them.

I would like to see these guys go out on the Worthen Arena basketball floor and challenge this young woman to a game. I'm sure the Ball State women would attest to her great skills as a basketball player. I apologize to Abby Wiseman and all of Eastern Michigan for having three lowlifes in our audience who ruined the reputation of our students.

Congratulations to our women for a great game played and I hope that the "Hostess patrol" doesn't take up our time at sporting events in the future.
