LADIES SHORT-PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- Double Axel
- Double or triple jump
- A jump combination
- Double jump and a triple jump; or two triple jumps
- Flying spin
- Layback or sideways-leaning spin
- Spin combination with only one change of foot and at least two changes of position
- One spiral step sequence and one step sequence of a different nature
MEN'S SHORT-PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- Triple jump, immediately followed by connecting steps and/or other similar free-skating movements
- Jump combination: a double and a triple jump, or two triple jumps
- Flying spin
- Camel spin or sit spin with one change of foot
- Spin combination with only one change of foot and at least two changes of position
- Two step sequences of a different nature. Must be performed within two minutes and 40 seconds, but can be done in any order.
ICE DANCING GENERAL ELEMENTS
- Ice dancing is the only discipline judged in three parts
1. Two compulsory dances, each worth 10 percent of final score
2. Original dance that counts as 30 percent of final score
3. A free dance that makes up 50 percent.
- Dances follow strict patterns and steps around the ice.
- Judges are concerned with timing, meaning, rhythm with the music, expression and accurate and precise footwork.
- A basic dance is chosen, such as the blues, waltz or tango.
- Should have the character of a ballroom dance.
- Two dance lifts are allowed. Dancer's cannot separate except to change their hold.
- Jumps can only be one revolution and spins cannot go beyond five revolutions.
PAIRS ELEMENTS
- Pairs competition has two programs. The short program and the free-skate program.
- The pairs finish with the free-skating program.
- Two-thirds of the final scores are earned in the free skate.
- Judges focus on:
- lifts
- extensions
- footwork
- spirals
- throws
- pair unison
- any lasso lift takeoff
- Twist lift (double)
- Solo jump (double or triple)
- Solo spin with only one change of foot and at least one change of position
- Pair spin combination with at least one change of foot and at least one change of position
- Death spiral backward inside edge
- One spiral step sequence and one straight line, circular or serpentine step sequence
- One spiral step sequence and one straight line, circular or serpentine
