EDITORIAL: Take an active role in SGA elections

Olowomeye, Malloy head up the slates that will run for SGA's top offices.

The time of year when eager students form ban together in order to form the best platform to take the Student Government Association top spot is here again. Last year there was not much of a debate as to who the new leaders of SGA would be, as the Rector slate was the lone candidate. This year, however, we will have a true election.

On Tuesday SGA announced who its slates will be in the upcoming presidential election.

Current president pro-tempore Tolu Olowomeye heads up a slate that features senior Megan Pickens for vice president, junior Joe Flores for secretary and senior Irving Washington as treasurer. The other slate features junior Jeff Malloy for president, junior Lee Morrison for vice president, junior Michelle Hudson for secretary and senior Laura Harris for treasurer.

Let these candidates know what you want. SGA sets governance in motion by making and passing legislation that is later presented to the University Senate. These are the students who want to become the figure heads that represent you at various levels of the university. Take an active role this election season.

If you do not like the way things are run at Ball State you have an opportunity to make your voice heard by attending these forums and letting these candidates know your opinion.

President and vice president debates will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Forum Room. Entire slate debates will be held next Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Ball Communications building, Room 130.

Elections are scheduled for Feb. 25 and 26.
