American luge sliders pick up two more medals

After picking up their first Olympic luge medals last year, by getting the silver and bronze medal doubles luge, the Americans went for a repeat, taking the sliver and bronze medals in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

LUGE FAST FACTS

- The entire sled cannot weigh more than 50 pounds for singles and 59 pounds for doubles.

- At the start of all luge runs each sled is weighed and the steels' temperature is compared to an official control steel.

- The current speed record for men's luge is 87 mph and was set at this year's Olympics by Markus Prock. He also received a Bronze medal.

- Last year the United States won its first medals in luge in the doubles competition. The United States came away with silver and bronze medals.

- After the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France the International Luge Federation changed the luge doubles competition from men's to mixed-gender competition. Since this ruling, no mixed-gender doubles teams have appeared in the Olympics.
