Three-car collision sends 6 to Ball Memorial

Six people were transported to Ball Memorial Hospital following a three-car collision Sunday evening at the intersection of Tillotson and Euclid avenues.

According to Sgt. Joseph Todd of the Muncie Police Department, two women were taken from the scene in serious condition.

At presstime, five people had been treated and released. According to Ball Memorial officials, the remaining victim, a young woman was being treated in the hospital's intensive care unit.

The accident, which happened shortly before 7:30 p.m., was apparently the result of a chain reaction initiated by the rear-end collision of a southbound maroon sedan hitting into a blue Honda Civic stopped at the intersection, according to witnesses.

The initial collision sent the Honda's front end into the front driver's side of a northbound vehicle stopped in the opposite lane. The maroon sedan came to rest on the lawn of the Northside Church of God, 1505 N. Tillotson Ave.

The collision ruptured the Honda Civic's gas tank, resulting in a fire. Responding fire units extinguished the blaze within minutes.

According to Sgt. Joseph Todd of the Muncie Police Department, bystanders present at the time of the accident assisted crash victims to safety.
