Ball State marks second MAC road win, downs Toledo

Toledo, Ohio -- After a strong run in the first half, Ball State kept control throughout the second to go on and defeat the University of Toledo, 68-59.

"You have to get a big lead so that you can hang on for dear life," Ball State coach Tim Buckley said. "These games are grinders. We knew this team wouldn't go away."

After Toledo came out and tallied six quick points in the first two minutes of play, Ball State went on a 22-3 run lasting up to the six-minute mark in the first half.

The win marks Ball State's (10-5 overall, 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference) third straight MAC win and puts an end to Toledo's (5-7, 2-1) two-game win streak. Saturday's game was Toledo's first home game in 34 days while the win in places Ball State in first place in the MAC West.

Leading the Cardinals throughout the game was Theron Smith who posted his ninth double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Also adding to the score with eleven points each was Petie Jackson and Chris Williams.

The leading scorer for Toledo was Terry Reynolds with 13 points.

Overall, after Saturday's game, Buckley was pleased his team was able to mark another conference road win.
