BSU athletes receive awards

Three Ball State athletes have been put in the spotlight by the Mid-American Conference by being named players of the week.

Jessica Reiter, a sophomore on the women's basketball team, has been named the MAC West Player of the Week after averaging 19 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in Ball State's last two games. Those games were played at the Loyola Marymount/Furama Hotel Thanksgiving Classic.

The mention marks the first time Reiter has been recieved the award.

Mark Zackery was named the MAC West Defensive Player of the week in football. Zackery had four solo tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack in the Cardinal win over Western Michigan, 35-31.

That Cardinal win allowed Ball State to snag a piece of the MAC West title, sharing it with Toledo and Northern Illinois. The mention also marks the first time Zackery earned Player of the Week in his career.

Petie Jackson is the third Cardinal athlete to recieve such honors this week. Jackson was named the the MAC West Division Player of the Week after leading Ball State in the Maui Invitational.

Jackson was named to the Maui Invitational All-Tournament Team after scoring 24 points against Kansas, 23 points against UCLA and 21 points against Duke. He also marked 12 assists for the Cardinals' three games throughout the tournament. This is the second time Jackson has recieved the award after being named a Player of the Week once last season.
