Campus paper receives national recognition

The Ball State Daily News has been awarded its third-straight Pacemaker award by the Associated Collegiate Press during its fall convention in New Orleans.

The Daily News also won first place in the Best of Show competition for its Sept. 12, 2001 issue in the Newspaper Specialty category for a four-year daily. The issue contained comprehensive coverage of the events of Sept. 11.

According to adviser T.J. Hemlinger, the awards recognize the Daily News as one of the top college newspapers in the country.

In individual awards, Daily News staff members Angie Smith, Ryan Powell and Matthew Gilpin won 2nd place in newspaper infographics/illustrations and Robert Lopez won 2nd place in business/economic reporting. Advertising designer Scott Swain received 3rd place in print/advertising campaign.
