Men's volleyball unveils highly competitive schedule for 2018 season
Ball State men’s volleyball has unveiled its 2018 schedule that will pair the Cardinals with top ranked schools from across the country.
Lees-Mcrae (Jan. 5) and Emmanuel (Jan. 6) colleges will be among the first to kick off the season against Ball State at Worthen Arena. These two schools will pave the way for a six game home stretch for the Cardinals to start the season.
The following weekend will be a tough test for Ball State as it hosts BYU and Stanford. To round out the season-starting homestand, Sacred Heart and Harvard will travel to Muncie on Jan. 19-20.
The six game homestand will be followed by a six game road trip. Ball State will look to defeat Pepperdine, George Mason, Penn State, Saint Francis, Ohio State and McKendree.
"The 2018 schedule is a very competitive schedule," head coach Joel Walton said in a press release. "The MIVA is going on a run of four consecutive national championships from teams in our league. Beginning with our in-league competition, we are going to be pushed in every match that we play."
The Cardinals will look to see where they stand in the national rankings because of the diversity presented in the 2018 schedule. Freshmen middle attacker Will Hippe and outside hitter Ben Chinnici will be faced with the challenges of adjusting to collegiate play as well as taking on top competitors in the nation early in their careers.
"The highly competitive nature of this year's schedule will give us a very clear indication of where our team ranks in the country," Walton added in a press release. "We are going to play great teams from all the different conferences and through those competitions, our guys will be battle tested and ready for post-season competition at the end of the year."
Through this tough schedule, the Cardinals will look to grow as a team and take home some hardware against some of the top schools in the nation.
