Ball State puts in bid for MCS schools

Ball State University submitted a bid to purchase at least one building that the Muncie Community Schools put on the market.

Three elementary schools that were shut down earlier this year are for sale, as well as Northside Middle School, which remains open.

"Ball State confirms that it has submitted a formal offer to Muncie School Corporation to purchase real property consistent with the notice that the university received from MCS on Sept. 11," said university spokeswoman Katy Wolf in an email to The Daily News.

"However, because the university’s offer is subject to negotiation by MCS through the emergency manager, we respectfully decline to discuss any of the details of the offer.”

While Northside is at the edge of Ball State's campus, there is no guarantee that it will close after the academic year. The property could be sold and then leased back to Muncie School Corporation for further use.
