WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Fredrich honored by MAC for second consecutive week

Sophomore libero set a career-high in digs for the second week in a row

Catie Fredrich may be a first-year starter at libero, but Mid-American Conference teams are learning about her very quickly this season.

For the second week in a row, Fredrich was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week. Her award follows a career-high 31 digs against Eastern Michigan on Saturday, one week after she previously had tallied a career-high 30 digs against Western Michigan.

Fredrich's career match helped give her a 6.14 digs per set average in Ball State's two weekend matches. She also boosted her season average to 4.49 digs per game, good enough for fourth in the MAC.

Fredrich also finished with double-digit digs for her 18th consecutive match, as well as leading Ball State in digs for 15 of the last 16 matches.

"I always tell her I wouldn't trade her for anyone," coach Steve Shondell said after the Western Michigan match. "She's just steady, match-in and match-out. I just think the world of her. You always know what she's going to bring, and that's what makes her special."
