MEN'S GOLF: Six Cardinals compete in Indiana Amateur Championship

Merkel, Lazzara finish tied for fifth in 125-man field

Six members of the Ball State men's golf team competed at the Indiana Amateur Championship at Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus, Ind. this past weekend.

Sophomore Tyler Merkel and junior Tony Lazzara tied for fifth with four round totals of 292.

Merkel's lowest round score was 71 in the first round, while Lazzara shot a 68 in the same round.

Juniors Brodie Williams and Joe Gasser finished 10th and 16th, shooting 296 and 299, respectively.

Junior Connor O'Neal tied for 18th with an even 300 and senior Zac Treash shot a 301 to finish tied at 21st.

A total of 125 golfers competed at the Indiana Amateur Championship who qualified from 11 different districts.

Purdue golfer Tyler Duncan won the tournament with a 287.

In the 2010 tournament, former Ball State golfer Eric Steger won the event.
