MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State drops fourth straight

Cardinals downed by RedHawks's second half shooting

The losing streak climbs to four games for Ball State, three straight in the Mid-American Conference.

 

Ball State dropped to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in the MAC  on Tuesday night as they fell 89-75 to Miami.

 

The Cardinals went into halftime leading 46-39, but a surge from the RedHawks' shooters in the second half brought the them back in it.

 

At the half, Jauwan Scaife had 18 points, but he was limited in the second half to just four points. Scaife was just two points shy from tying his career high.

 

Three minutes into the second half, Scaife had shot 8-for-12 from the field and had 22 points. He finished the game shooting 8 of 18.

 

Two other Cardinals finished in double-figures. Chris Bond with 14 points pulling in eight rebounds and Randy Davis scored 10 while dishing out eight assists.

 

Miami (10-12, 5-3 MAC) averaged seven 3s per game coming into Tuesday night. The RedHawks finished with a team-record 16 3-pointers on the night.

 

The RedHawks shot 16-for-32 behind the arc and 32-for-59 from the field.

 

Julian Mavunga for the RedHawks led all scorers with a career-high 27 points. Josh Sewell hit career-high numbers with 20.

 

Ball State shot 8-for-22 from 3-point range and finished 26-for-61 from the field — 42.6 percent.
