"We wanted to do a town hall [meeting] today," Obama said. "but we also want to do a big-arena rally, so we are going to try to come back.

When Ball State University linebacker Spain Cosby returned a Tanner Justice interception to inside his team's five-yard line, it seemed the score of Saturday's spring scrimmage was about to turn ugly. Despite a 23-0 victory for the Cardinal team, which teamed the starting offense with the second-string defense, Cosby's pick failed to produce points.

BASEBALL: Benbow wins player of the week award

For the third consecutive week a Ball State University baseball player has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week. Following Ryan Chenoweth and Dean Anna is outfielder Kory Benbow, who won the award Monday. The sophomore went 10-17 at the plate with two home runs, 11 runs and 10 RBIs in four games last week.

David Hentz, freshman graphic arts management major, said he wished more students would get involved in the community and become advocates. "More people, more voice, more change," he said. Competing with an injury-laden roster, the Ball State University track and field team won three events on its way to a sixth-place finish Saturday at the Miami Invitational. Miami University won the meet, scoring 212 points through 19 scored events. Ball State's 66.

Stealing is a crime, regardless of the cost of what you're stealing. Printing costs alone were more than $1,000 but that doesn't account for the money advertisers put into it or the long, hard hours the editorial and advertising staffs worked.

Coming into the weekend undefeated in conference play, the Ball State University men's tennis team's was planning on carrying its momentum to a first-place spot in the Mid-American Conference tournament. Instead, with its one loss to rival No. 71 Western Michigan University, the team has to fight for the second spot to the tournament on April 26.

More than 3,000 people, both old and young, Indiana residents and people from across the ocean, attended Sen. Barack Obama's speech Saturday at Ball State University. William Egbuna flew in from London to see Obama. A lot of people in the United Kingdom support Obama, Egbuna said.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals drop two home matches in conference action

The Ball State University women's tennis team lost two home conference matches this weekend to No. 60 Western Michigan University and Bowling Green State University. The Cardinals (8-10, 1-6 MAC) fell both days by 6-1 scores. "I thought on Friday [against Western Michigan] we came out with the right frame of mind and energy level, but we were just beaten by a better team," head coach Kathy Bull said.

Delta Zeta sorority, along with the help of some gelatin, brought in more than $5,000 for charity with its annual Turtle Tugs philanthropy Sunday. Sarah Russell, philanthropy chairwoman for Delta Zeta, said the event was a success despite the poor weather.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: No. 8 Ball State beats No. 15 Lewis

The No. 8 Ball State University men's volleyball team defeated No. 15 Lewis 30-24, 30-23, 27-30, 30-23 on Saturday in Romeoville, Ill. With this win Ball State (19-9, 10-2 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) concludes the regular season with its highest conference winning percentage since 2002.

Voting official arrested after attacking reporter, candidate

A voter registration deputy for Delaware County has returned to work following an arrest on suspicion of attacking a reporter for The Star Press who was interviewing a Ball State University student. William Statom was released from Delaware County Jail on $2,500 bond after he was arrested after Wednesday's emergency election board meeting, according to jail officials.
