WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards look to keep streak alive

The Ball State University women's basketball team takes its perfect Mid-American Conference record to Dekalb, Ill., to face Northern Illinois University at 7 p.m. The Cardinals (11-6, 4-0 MAC) are riding a four game winning streak - defeating Eastern Michigan University, Western Michigan University, Central Michigan Universities and the University of Toledo.

The bad news is that the Ball State University men's tennis team is coming off a loss to nationally ranked University of Illinois last Friday. The good news is that the Cardinals will try for their first victory of the spring season tonight against an IPFW team it has a history of beating.

FOOTBALL: BSU promotes two coaches to coordinators

After spending the past week hiring assistant coaches from outside his program, Ball State University football coach Stan Parrish found the leaders of his offense and recruiting from within his staff. Ball State announced Wednesday that Parrish had promoted Eddie Faulkner to offensive coordinator and John Powers to recruiting coordinator.

It's amazing what a week, or even a single day, can do. Last week was full of what passes as a normal student's schedule. Classes were filled with my various machinations aimed at getting that all-important A at the end of the semester. Interactive site to warn about drunk driving

A Ball State University communications class has developed an educational DVD and interactive Web site to educate sixth through 12 graders on the legal consequences of driving under the influence. The video entitled Think B4U Drive, chronicles a woman who gets pulled over, has had too much to drink and experiences the judicial consequences that ensue.

In his four-year college career, outside attacker Todd Chamberlain has been named to two all-conference teams, but Tuesday was the first time he received a weekly award from the conference. Four days after hiring his first assistant coach, Ball State University football coach Stan Parrish announced three additions to his staff on Tuesday. Parrish, who became the Cardinals head coach Dec. 18 after Brady Hoke left for San Diego State University, named Doug Graber, Deion Melvin and Pat Perles as his newest assistant coaches.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals add games to TV schedule

The Ball State University football team will not be the only squad on campus to get some airtime on the ESPN family of networks this year. Matt McCollester, assistant director of communications for Ball State, released Wednesday that the Ball State men's basketball team will have two games picked up as part of the ESPN Full Court Package, which includes Sunday's game at Worthen Arena against the University of Toledo and on Feb.

The Ball State University men's basketball team's defense was "Thinking Arby's" for last night's game against Mid-American Conference West Division preseason favorite Western Michigan University. As part of a promotion with the athletics department, any time the Cardinals hold an opponent to less than 50 points in a home win, fans who show their ticket stub from the game can buy an unlimited amount of 50 cent Arby's roast beef sandwiches the following day at any Muncie location.

Ohio reciprocity canceled

When Lindsey Schweikert visited her sister, Allison Schweikert, at Ball State University last spring, she fell in love with the school. However, since that time, the reciprocity agreement that would allow the Western Ohio native to have Indiana tuition at Ball State has been canceled.

Inaugural speech discussed

In less than 40 minutes, Ball State University students caught a glimpse of what took more than 40 years to make President Barack Obama's inauguration possible Tuesday. Students watched a four-minute segment of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

About 30 students attended the inaugural panel discussion Tuesday at Pruis Hall, where students, faculty and four panelists talked about the day's events that ushered President Barack Obama into the Oval Office. The central theme to the evening was that Obama's inauguration as the first black president in United States history transcends politics.

Building usage sparks scheduling debate

Under-used campus buildings have caused Ball State University administrators to consider scheduling more Friday classes. Associate Provost Marilyn Buck said the administration was still investigating how often buildings were being used. She said many buildings were used for more than classrooms.

If you're hoping to grab a peanut butter snack for your dinner tonight, you're out of luck. Peanut butter-based snacks, such as crackers and some Little Debbies, are unavailable to students and other customers. Those products were recalled because traces of salmonella were spotted.
