HALL OF FAME: Routine of excellence

Routine has always been important for former Ball State University football coach Paul Schudel. But he is willing to make a trip to Muncie to join the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame. Schudel compiled a 68-40-4 record from 1985-94 at Ball State and is now the offensive line coach of Division III Albion College in Michigan.

Unity Week wraps up

As the Unity Pageant ended Saturday afternoon, Ball State University alumnus Ivy McConnell looked at the 10 contestants and noticed something was missing from the event. Each of the contestants who stood in line on stage were black. McConnell said she realized the pageant itself could be truer to its title of "Unity".

MEN'S TENNIS: Newcomer lone bright spot for Cardinals

The Ball State University men's tennis team's 6-1 loss Saturday had some bright spots. For instance, playing No. 16 University of Michigan which won its second match of the night, although the Cardinals avoided a shutout thanks to a new teammate. Informal Sorority Recruitment starts today and will have activities for women interested in joining sororities all week. The events are open to any female students who did not complete Fall recruitment or who want to join a sorority, said Jennifer Eakins, Panhellenic Council vice president of public relations and Phi Mu fraternity pledge educator.

Returning from central Pennsylvania on Saturday night, players on the No. 13 Ball State University men's volleyball team sat in silence for the beginning of their bus trip back to Muncie. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: McDonald jump-starts Cards to win

Despite being down by double digits, the Ball State University women's basketball team rallied back to defeat the University of Akron 61-55 on Saturday at Rhodes Arena in Akron, Ohio. The Cardinals (12-7, 5-1 MAC) trailed by as many as 14 points in the early stages of the second half before coming back, using 3-pointers to their advantage.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Post play leads to victory

University of Toledo men's basketball coach Gene Cross remembers Jarrod Jones well. Cross spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame where he was recruiting coordinator, and said the Irish had some interest in the 6-foot-9-inch Jones, who is a 2008 graduate of Michigan City High School about 30 miles from the Notre Dame campus.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Muscling a victory

With one second remaining on the shot clock Sunday in the second half of the Ball State University men's basketball team's game against the University of Toledo, senior guard Brandon Lampley was at the right place at the right time. Fellow senior guard Rob Giles' pass deflected off a Toledo defender and right into Lampley's hands, and his 3-pointer with 5:54 remaining in the game put the Cardinals ahead 10 points at 50-40 and ultimately proved as the exclamation point to a 66-53 victory against the Rockets in front of 3,504 fans at Worthen Arena.

In a mass assemblage of 1,200 competitors at the Gladstein Invitational, the Ball State University track and field team managed to stand out by achieving individual season bests. Riding the wave of confidence from their most recent victory against Wright State University, the Ball State University women's tennis team ran into an Indiana University team that proved to be too much to handle in a 7-0 Hoosier victory. After the matchup between Ball State and Indiana, coach Kathy Bull said there was overwhelming playing by the Hoosiers players.
