Along with rising stress levels as finals approach, this week brings with it a series of opportunities for expanding Ball State University students' horizons. Spectrum, the university's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender group, kicks off its Spring Week of events Monday with a performance by a lesbian Latina rapper and wraps up Saturday with a drag show.

As you know, you will come across several different people during your time at Ball State University. We will encounter peers from neighboring cities and also foreign countries. And while our duties as students include getting good grades and participating in extracurricular activities, I often think that friendship is overlooked.

Downtown trolley returns for late loop

A committee consisting of members from Downtown Development and the Downtown Business Council has decided to bring the Muncie trolley back for the last month of the Spring Semester, Cheryl Crowder, program manager of Downtown Development, said. The trolley will run every 15 minutes starting at Reserve and University avenues at 9:50 p.

Spectrum 'motivated' for event week

Spectrum President Damon Clevenger couldn't help but to admit he's a little extra motivated this week. Between it being the Ball State University GLBT group's week of events, the April 4 Iowa Supreme Court ruling upholding a decision not to restrict marriage to a union between a man and woman and the April 7 decision making Vermont the first state to allow same-sex couples to marry through legislation, Clevenger said he wants people to get involved this week.

SOFTBALL: Cards' winning streak extends to 7

The Ball State University softball team increased its winning streak to seven games after going 4-0 during the weekend. The Cardinals (20-16, 10-1) defeated Bowling Green State University (7-22, 2-8) in a doubleheader on Friday and defeated the University of Toledo (5-27, 3-7) on both Saturday and Sunday.

Second Teachers College candidate addresses future problems in education

Faculty and staff from the Ball State University Teachers College gathered Friday to evaluate the second candidate for dean. John Jacobson, dean of the college of education at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, held an open forum in L.A. Pittenger Student Center.

Alpha Phi Alpha is putting Business Before Pleasure for the fraternity's annual week of events. Cleophas Hall, fraternity president, said the week starts this afternoon in the Atrium with information tables, then community service at Second Harvest Food Bank.

INTERACTIVE: Campus Cuts' groovy barber

This isn't the typical barbershop. The similarities end at the sight of locks of hair hitting the floor and the sound of scissors and hair clippers buzzing. Algier Williamson is the owner and operator of Campus Cuts, a local barbershop in the Village. Williamson has been cutting hair in Muncie for the last four years, but has been trimming people up for 11 years.

Science and Humanities accepting nominations for women's award

Ball State University's College of Sciences and Humanities is seeking nominations for a statewide award for women. Anyone wanting to nominate a candidate for the 2009 Indiana Women of Achievement Awards has until May 20 to do so, according to a press release from the university.

Game one A week of rest might have helped the Ball State University softball team as it beat Bowling Green State University 7-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Friday. Elizabeth Milian took a one hitter into the seventh inning but allowed two hits in the seventh, allowing one run and ending her streak of 14 consecutive scoreless innings.
