Following his performance against the No. 17 team in the country, Ball State linebacker Ben Ingle has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
On the surface, Ball State's 24-19 loss at No. 17 Northwestern seems like a win. The Wildcats were a clear favorite in the game, and many people probably picked the Cardinals to get blown out.
The Ball State soccer team is now 4-0 in its last four Mid-American Conference openers. Ball State won against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 25, and defeated Bowling Green on Sept. 27 for a 2-0 start in MAC play.
The Ball State women's volleyball team started out Mid-American Conference play on the right foot with two wins this weekend. Neither win came easily, however, as Ball State won both matches — against Toledo and Akron — in five sets.
Coming into Ball State's road contest with No. 17 Northwestern, it looked as if the Cardinals' offense would be in for a long night. Ball State controlled most of the first half, however, and the offense gained 359 yards — 181 on the ground — against the nation's No. 10-ranked defense in a 24-19 loss.
Ball State moved the ball on offense against No. 17 Northwestern's nationally-ranked defense, but missed opportunities cost the Cardinals in a 24-19 loss on the road.

Men’s tennis season may be four months away, but the team is already in match mode. The Cardinals competed in Milwaukee last weekend and are participating in the Purdue Invitational this weekend.
It seemed like Ball State was down and out early into its first Mid-American Conference match at Toledo, dropping the first seven points. The Cardinals went on to drop the first two sets, but fired back and ultimately came back to win the match 3-2 over the Rockets.
The Ball State football team will face a stiff test on the road against Northwestern, as it will battle with the No. 10 defense in the country in Evanston, Ill. Through three games, Northwestern has allowed just 16 points and is allowing 235 yards per game during a 3-0 start. The Wildcats held Stanford to six points and Duke to 10 points last week.
More than $1 million will be spent on renovations to the First Merchants Ballpark Complex by the time they are complete. This will be the complex's first update in 40 years.
This summer, Ball State named Megan Ciolli Bartlett as the new head coach of the softball program. Bartlett hopes that she can bring a lot of enthusiasm and experience to the team.
After two subpar showings against Virginia Military Institute and Texas A&M, the Ball State defense improved significantly in its week three win.
Ball State alum and rookie cornerback Eric Patterson played in his first NFL game for the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 21. The 2014 graduate began his professional career by earning a spot on the Colts’ practice squad. He was promoted to the 53-man roster after rookie cornerback D’Joun Smith was placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list on Sept. 18.
The Ball State soccer team ended non-conference play with a win, and head coach Craig Roberts reached a milestone in the process. Ball State traveled to Morehead State on Sept. 20 and took home a 3-1 victory over the Eagles. Roberts became the second Ball State soccer coach to reach 50 career victories, joining Ron Rainey.
A second week of NFL play brought a second big milestone for a former Ball State football player. Former receiver Willie Snead caught his first NFL touchdown for the Saints, while cornerback Eric Patterson was promoted to the Colts' active roster.
She’s quiet, shy and fun to be around off the field. But she's “scary good” when she is wearing jersey number 27. Ask any Ball State field hockey player about junior goalkeeper Jordan Dues, and they will tell you she's a gamer.
In a situation similar to last year, Ball State's backup quarterback has provided a needed spark to the offense. Trailing 17-0 to Eastern Michigan, freshman Riley Neal entered the game for Jack Milas. Neal finished the game 24-28 for 194 yards and a touchdown and added 93 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
All season long, Ball State head women's volleyball coach Steve Shondell has focused on Mid-American Conference play and the postseason. After a 0-3 weekend at the Purdue Boiler Box Challenge, the Cardinals finished their non-conference schedule at 6-8. But for Shondell, the team is on the right track to start league play.
