Heavy metal guitar riffs resonated and snare beats echoed along the dark grey walls of the Launching Pad, a small concert venue in University Square, as Decadent lead singer Dylan Keller screamed the final words of their rehearsal set Tuesday night. Eighteen-year-old Keller and other Muncie youth rock musicians including rhythm guitarist Colin Cross of Dreams of University compose their own songs and perform covers thanks to a program that allows their bands to unleash their talents.

Ball State University football fans have a tailgating alternative with the Alumni Association's Ball State Game Day buffet. Ed Shipley, executive director of alumni programs, said President Jo Ann Gora and Athletic Director Tom Collins will be two of the expected hundreds in attendance when the Alumni Association kicks off the season on Aug.

820-mile hike with donations

The Miller College of Business honored a Ball State University student Thursday night for his efforts to raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims. Junior Ben Poor was featured at MCOB's Welcome Week activity, "The Miller Experience," on University Green.

Jim Lowe, director of engineering and operations for facilities planning and management, said one call box was installed on McKinley Avenue near the Music Instruction Building during the Spring Semester.

The Ball State University field hockey team has made an annual tradition out of playing a difficult out-of-conference schedule, and the trend shows no sign of stopping in the 2007 season. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Roller hires alumnus, former Kokomo coach

The former women's basketball head coach at Kokomo High School will come out of retirement to be the final assistant coach on Tracy Roller's coaching staff this season. Thursday the Ball State University athletic department announced the hiring of Charlie Hall as an assistant coach on the women's basketball team.

Vending machine prices increase

Ball State University students will have to dig deeper in their pockets if they want to purchase vending machine goods now that the prices have increased. Leisa Julian, director of finance legal affairs, said the increase would only affect vending machines, and would have no affect on other food service prices on campus.

About 74 of our peers have more on their minds this week than starting classes. While Friday and Saturday marked the start of school year fun for Ball State University students, it also provided ample time for Indiana State Excise and Muncie and Ball State police departments to remind minors that alcohol shouldn't be in their hands.
