Songs, dance, food at Kwanzaa celebration

The Multicultural Center and the Multicultural Advisers of Residence Life will have a Kwanzaa celebration in the Park Hall Multipurpose Room from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Ali Pickens, graduate assistant for the Multicultural Center, said the event will feature traditional celebratory Kwanzaa readings and songs, a performance by the Rhythm Dance Troupe and a meal comprised of African, Caribbean and South American Food.

Ball State University is seeking students' input about which professors to grant a chance to teach their dream course. Associate professor of sociology Mellisa Holtzman said students can nominate professors for the Excellence in Teaching Award through Dec.

Although the commissioner of the Mid-American Conference thinks the speculation about a potential Ball State University-Boise State University matchup in a bowl game is exciting, he is not sure it will materialize. "I love that there is a national conversation about can those two teams play," MAC commissioner Rick Chryst said.

About 150 students attended Pruis Hall's Night of Comedy on Tuesday for a night of stand-up comedy and a student directed comedic short film. Eight comedians took the stage, lampooning every subject from Facebook to drugs to struggles with the opposite sex.

Drive helps single-parent students with toys

The Ball State Department of Women's Studies is playing Santa Claus for Ball State single-parent students this winter. The department and Iota Iota Iota, a women's studies honor society, will have their annual Holiday Wish List toy drive to serve the needs of single-parent students during the holiday season, said Julee Rosser, Interim Director of Women's Studies.

Family members sue BSU

Allegations of mocking and name calling were among more than a dozen claims in a lawsuit filed against Ball State University. The lawsuit was in response to a September 2007 incident in which seven people were trapped in an elevator for about two hours. James and Carla Berry and Corrine and Veronica Castillo filed the lawsuit against Ball State, Ball State Police Department and Cpl.

FOOTBALL: Ball State will not play Boise State in Humanitarian Bowl

A matchup between the undefeated football teams of Ball State University and Boise State University will not happen in the Humanitarian Bowl. A press release from the Humanitarian Bowl Wednesday afternoon said Ball State informed the bowl that the Cardinals are not a candidate to play the Broncos in Boise, Idaho.

OTLA held a forum on attendance policies at Teachers College Monday. MEN'S BASKETBALL: Last-second victory

FORT WAYNE - The Ball State University men's basketball team's game against IPFW Monday night was generally dominated more by the referee's whistles than any player's performance. Through all the frustration on both ends, senior forward Anthony Newell knocked down a turnaround 15-foot jumper from the elbow as time expired to give the Cardinals a 54-52 win against the host Mastodons at Memorial Coliseum.

In his three years at Ball State University, offensive coordinator Stan Parrish has received accolades for building the Cardinals' offense into one of the most potent in the country. He might soon get awards for his work, too. Parrish was named as one of five finalists for the Broyles Award on Tuesday.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Three MAC teams in NCAA Tournament

For the first time in conference history, three Mid-American Conference teams will play in the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament. Ohio University, Miami University and Western Michigan University were named to the 64-team field Sunday. Ohio (24-7) received the MAC's automatic bid to this tournament after winning the MAC Tournament, which included a sweep of Ball State University in the quarterfinals.

SOCCER: Two Cardinals earn academic honors

For the fifth consecutive season multiple players from the Ball State University soccer team earned spots on the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team. Forward Emily Rein and midfielder Megan Ridley were both named to the 2008 squad Tuesday. The team was chosen by faculty athletic representatives of the conference's universities.

WCRD, 91.3 FM, is giving the Ball State University community a chance to hear what music gets its football team ready on game days. Darius Hill, Kyle Cornwell, Chris Clancy and Jordan Applegate will be on Radio Sweetheart at 10 p.m. today with their game day playlists.
