A Ball State University track and field athlete was arrested Saturday after she reportedly scratched a police officer's hand and cursed at him, according to the Muncie Police Department. Ex-BSU student's plea hearing continued

The guilty plea hearing for a former Ball State University student arrested in connection with a 2007 assault has been continued for the second time. Ashley Kirkman, 21, is scheduled to plea to Delaware County Judge Robert Barnet on Jan. 22 in Circuit Court 3, according to court documents.

FIELD HOCKEY: MAC honors Cardinals for academics

For the second consecutive year forward Brooke MacGillivary of the Ball State University field hockey team was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Team. The MAC announced Tuesday MacGillivary was one of 12 student-athletes from the conference to receive the honors.

FOOTBALL: Hoke wins regional coach of year award

After leading his team to a 12-0 regular season record, Ball State University football coach Brady Hoke was named the American Football Coaches Association Football Bowl Subdivision Region 3 Coach of the Year on Tuesday. It was the first time Hoke, who is in his sixth season as the Cardinals' coach, won the regional award.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards prepare for Raiders' invasion

With only two days between games, Ball State University's women's basketball team will play Wright State University after a short turnaround at 7 p.m. in Worthen Arena. BASEBALL: Vitek placed on player of the year watch list

Baseball season doesn't start for more than two months, but Ball State University's first preseason accolade was announced Monday. Sophomore pitcher/infielder Kolbrin Vitek was named to the 2009 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award Watch List. The Wallace Award is sponsored by the College Baseball Foundation and the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards lose to No. 14 Purdue 68-39

The Ball State University men's basketball team trails No. 14 Purdue University 30-17 at halftime in Worthen Arena. Senior forward Anthony Newell has six points to lead the Cardinals (4-3), who are 2-6 all-time against the Boilermakers. American Idol stars to perform at Emens

Ruben Studdard and Frenchie Davis of American Idol will perform in the Broadway musical "Ain't Misbehavin'" at 7:30 p.m. in John R. Emens Auditorium. Documentary debuts

Ball State Alumni Center was packed full of brown paper bags Monday evening for the premier of "State of Assault," a documentary about sexual assault victims and the criminal justice system. The 1,800 grocery-sized bags represented the number of bags needed to collect evidence for sexual assault crimes for one county for one year, said Ball State senior Kristin Larson.

Ball State University men's basketball senior forward Anthony Newell was selected Monday as the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. It is the second MAC West Player of the Week selection for Newell this season and fourth overall selection in his career.

SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cards win House of Champions Invite

Despite the snow and cold conditions outside, the Ball State University men and women's swimming and diving teams were anything but cold Saturday as they swept the IUPUI House of Champions Invitational for the second straight year. Reigning Mid-American Conference swimmer of the week, Mary Ehresman, won two events and anchored the first-place 800-yard freestyle relay team.

Cardinals headed to GMAC

For the first time in program history, the Ball State University football team is going to back-to-back bowl games as the No. 22 Cardinals will play the University of Tulsa in the GMAC Bowl. Although the Motor City Bowl had first selection of teams from the Mid-American Conference, Motor City Bowl Executive Director Ken Hoffman said his bowl allowed the Cardinals to go to the GMAC Bowl to set up the best possible matchup for the No.

A crowd armed with phones, cameras, pens and "CHiPs" memorabilia gathered around Erik Estrada on Saturday morning at Target, trying to get autographs and a picture with the star of "CHiPs" and "Armed and Famous." Estrada was helping with the Muncie Police Department and the Salvation Army's 15th annual "Shop With a Cop.
